Changelog 0.8.1
It's been a long time coming, bug the 0.8.1 release is finally here!
By far the most notable mechanic of this release is the Seal of Form, a new way to store and make use of your morphing abilities. In addition to looking cool, the Seal of Form lets you store and transfer morphs, and can be rarely found in some loot chests. With some advanced alchemical manipulation, it is possible to leverage this new resource to be able to stay in a morph for up to 10 times longer without getting stuck that way, but this ability does not come without risks. This is a new mechanic, subject to bugfixing and rebalancing depending on feedback.
Also, the timefrozen recipe has finally been fixed. Sorry about that! It was supposed to be a cool new feature where you could prevent food from decaying and do other weird item-stasis things. Anyway, it works now. :)
There has also been a rebalancing of combat damage. Players now deal more against mobs they have the morph for, rather than dealing more damage to mobs across the board based on their experience level.
- Changeling has been updated
- The survival morph menu has been decluttered, with useless features removed
- Undead morphs now make the player undead. For example, a splash potion of healing will harm a player morphed as a zombie
- Morphs with water allergy now take damage in rain when they are supposed to
- Squid morphs no longer move really fast
- Fixed max health sometimes not changing when morphing
- Fixed a bug causing the player to "die" on the client side
- Foamfix has been updated, bringing a significant performance boost.
- Keyboard Wizard has been updated. This version is a backport of the much nicer 1.12 version.
- Ars Magica 2 has been updated. There are no notable gameplay changes. This update is in anticipation of an earlier fix being contributed upstream.
- The Hardcore Alchemy mod suite has been updated. The combined modpack and mod suite changelog continues below
- You may be wondering what happend to 0.8.0. That was an internal update, which clarified the licensing of the mods. In short, the mod suite is mostly LGPL, with a bit of GPL, and has been that way for a while.
- Add Seal of Form, an item that stores knowledge of a morph. The seal is craftable via enchanting, and can rarely be found in loot chests
- Added a brand new mechanic, allowing for a player to use a Seal of Form to stay in a morph for longer without getting stuck that way (up to 10 times longer), at the cost of having to backtrack in order to demorph. Players morphed in this way will also be affected by the instinct mechanic.
- The timefrozen crafting recipe has been fixed
- Oops! I changed the recipe at the last minute before the 0.7.2 release, and it turns out that the timefrozen mechanic was unobtainable. So, let's introduce the feature again...
- Hardcore Alchemy has a new timefreeze crafting mechanic. Nearly any item can be timefrozen. Timefrozen food will to stop decaying, and clocks to freeze in place. You can un-timefreeze an item easily.
- The experience points-based leveling system has been removed, in favor of a new system where the player gets better at fighting mobs they attack more often.
- In the previous system, players became stronger against mobs as they gained more experience points. Now, players do more damage against mobs they have the morph for. The attack difference is greater at higher difficulty levels.
- In the previous system, the player would gain a defense bonus against mobs depending on how high their level was compared to the mob. Now, the player's defense is no longer affected by their combat history, making armor more useful.
- In the previous system, mobs would spawn with a random level assigned to them depending on their location. This has been removed.
- Because of the combat balance changes, the Tome of Peritia from Blood Magic has been enabled, allowing the storage of experience points inside an item
- You will no longer have to worry about Harvestcraft seeds cluttering your inventory when breaking gardens, but in exchange, you will need to use a Sieve from Ex Nihilo to get the seeds
- To compensate for the potentially increased tedium of seed-sifting, seed drop rates have been doubled
- Fixed a bug in the trial by fire logic, making the Broken Heart of Flame too easy to get
- There is now a warning in chat when the player digs dirt with the wrong tool
- Fixed Tough As Nails thirst not draining nutrition
- The yield of Harvestcraft bait crafting has been increased from 4 to 5
- Harvestcraft gardens can now yield cocoa beans, reed seeds, and cactus seeds
- Vertical planks can now be used in bookshelf recipes
- Fixed greatwood planks not making the correct bookshelf type
- Fixed some
en_US
localization bugs - Harvestcraft saplings and paperbark wood can no longer be extracted from a transmutation table
- Fixed the player not being able to acquire morphs of non-human mobs from Meme in a Bottle. In a previous update, they were made ineligible for incrementing the max humanity bonus, but it was not clear at the time that you couldn't morph into them.
- The guidebook has been improved, and a new 0.8.1 upgrade guide has been added for players upgrading from older versions
- Reduced starting inventory clutter
