Electromagnet
Electromagnets are used to accelerate and focalize Particle Bunches as part of your Large Hadron Collider setup. Higher tiers give access to higher energy while requiring bigger setup with lower operating temperature.
Depending on their 'Main' or 'Corner' placements, electromagnets have different effect on your setup.
Main electromagnets works by pairs placed vertically or horizontally directly around a Void Shell. An electromagnet without its counter part on the opposing side of the void shell is considered 'alone' and will have no effects whatsoever. Placing 4 electromagnets will provide twice more acceleration to the Particle Bunches than a single pair.
Main electromagnets are also used in horizontal corners when turning in accelerator ring corner.
Corner electromagnets are used in an Input or Output Accelerator Node to redirect the Particle Bunches from/to another tier.
Electromagnets have specialized tiers. Notably, you can't use a higher in place of a lower one and will have no effect on Particle Bunches outside their operating range.
Practically, this means:
- Main electromagnets shall always be of the same tier of the current accelerator stage.
- Corner electromagnets in an input node shall be 1 tier lower than the current accelerator stage.
- Corner electromagnets in an output node shall be 1 tier higher than the current accelerator stage.
All electromagnets exists in both Plain and Glass variants. They're functionally equivalent apart for some specific crafting recipes.
Basic Electromagnet only works with lower energy Particle bunches.
You can produce 4 Plain ones from 4 Coils, a Glass tank, a LV motor, and a Capacitive Crystal.
Depending on other mods installed, Coil can be replaced with Copper or Iron ingot (no IC2).
You can produce 4 Glass ones by adding 4 glasses to 4 Basic Plain Electromagnets.
Basic Electromagnets are used to craft Particles Injector and Basic Chillers.
Advanced Electromagnet only works with mid-tier energy Particle bunches.
You can produce 6 Plain ones from 4 Basic Plain Electromagnets, 2 Power Interfaces, and 500 units of ions.
You can produce 6 Glass ones from 4 Basic Glass Electromagnets, 2 Power Interfaces, and 500 units of ions.
Superior Electromagnet only works with higher energy Particle bunches.
You can produce 6 Plain ones from 4 Advanced Plain Electromagnets, 1 Glass tank, 2 Superconductors, 1 HV Motor, and 24 units of protons.
Electromagnets draw power from the accelerator itself, through it's Subspace Capacitor. They consume mostly energy depending on the number of accelerating Particle Bunches.
Electromagnets need to be cooled down through Chillers, they will have no effect until they reach their operating temperature.
Due to high energy involved, standing next to operating electromagnets may have side effect to electronic equipment and armors: proceed with caution while standing next to a powered accelerator!
In compact designs, it's possible to have the same Electromagnet working for multiple Large Hadron Colliders, saving a lot on building resources.
